About Mike - the 'Old Stag'
A photographic journey of over 50 years started as an apprentice cameraman in the printing trade. Mike Collins, the 'Old Stag’, quickly moving from large industrial cameras to his love of single lens reflexes, ultimately becoming a Nikon devotee.
Throughout this photographic journey he’s experienced being in privileged positions around the world and at major sporting events, to capture unrepeatable scenes. Mike's style is to capture the 'magic of the moment' in the viewfinder, doing very little creative post production retouching.
Amongst his assignment highlights includes spells as the official photographer for the Southwell Diocese of the Church of England and for his home town football club Mansfield Town (the Stags). Now he mainly captures images for pleasure, with examples from a lifetime of his work featured here in these portfolios.
Portfolios
Mike has captured tens of thousands of images throughout his photographic career, from his many and varied assignments and projects. His images broadly fall into five main categories, Faith, Nature, People, Sport and Travel. Here are some of those images.
Faith
Since being confirmed into the Christian Faith in the early 1990's Mike has developed a deep interest in capturing images that convey people's relationship with God.
His sensitive approach and understanding of the subject has enabled him to capture stunning images of people in tune with God.
Nature
This is a massive subject, with many aspects of 'Nature' meaning different things to different people. Mike's passion is capturing wildlife and scenes that convey majesty.
He's been blessed to travel the world from Iceland to New Zealand and his varied landscapes and wildlife shots convey this.
People
There are so many people on this earth and every one of them unique! Capturing images of people Laughing, Crying, Alone, Together, Loud and Quiet are his real love.
These images of unique people portraying memorable expressions that really 'Capture that Magic Moment' are Mike's trademark.
Sport
Mike played most sports as a younger man and knows the sporting world. Often the best moments in sport are when the action is at its most intense, creating great images.

Travel

Here's Looking at You Jesus!
Mike is pleased to present his portfolio of 72 final images of the 'Here's Looking at You Jesus!' photographic collection. Long time congregation member Mike has spent the twelve months of June through May, capturing the beauty of God's work and people over a year at St. Andrew's church, Skegby.
